I guess I should mention that I am (and have been) using the OSS
modules for sound with KDE 3.1 (and yes, aRts is running too) since I
didn't have ALSA installed when I compiled KDE. However, I doubt that
this is the problem since Manuel seems to use ALSA modules exclusively
without any problems...

Just thought I should throw in that observation...

Also, I'm pretty sure that the only thing that changed in my system
was updating the driver from CVS late on the 25th (cvs update -dP) and
compiling/installing the new driver between when I was having problems
and when they disappeared.  :-/  For what it's worth, I'm also running
the nvidia proprietary binary without any negative effect (I have a
GeForce GTS 2)...
