Tried 1.0.2c along with alsa-lib and alsa-utils 1.0.2. Configured and compiled
without error but the same basic problem exists, "no cards found".
address@hidden ~]# cat /proc/asound/*

vmalloc: 4096 bytes
cat: /proc/asound/oss: Is a directory

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.2c.

I seem to have all the appropriate entries in /etc/modprobe.conf. Alsaconf
behaves erratically, finding my au8830 perhaps one in five attempts. The
modules appear to autoload on demand, for example by attempting to run
mpg123. Alsactl can't find any cards. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,
Kevin Alm
