Das liegt an einem Posting, bei dem das Subject mit einem '/' beginnt,
genauer handelt es sich um "/usr/bin/install: keine Berechtigung" von
David Lenzen, gepostet am 9.4. (genauer header siehe unten)
Ich bezihe meine Artikel mittels leafnode - damit konnte ich die
.overview-Datei dementsprechend ändern (sprich führenden Slash gelöscht)
und konnte neue Artikel holen. (Ebenso das Subject im Orginalposting)
Die Follow-ups lassen pan nicht abstürzen, das vorangestellte 'Re:'
genügt.
Solltest Du die Nachrichten direkt vom Newsserver beziehen, weiß ich
leider keinen Rat.

Pan crashes because gmime cannot handle subjects that start with a '/',
at least that was the problem I was experiencing. (I'll post the header
of the offending message below)
I use leafnode and could do some testing. I could bypass that problem
editing the .overview-file in leafnode's spool directory for that group
- I just removed the leading / from the subject and was able to load new
articles.
Pan displays the info gained from that overview, but when trying to load
that article it fetches the original contents and therefore it was
necessary to edit the article (in leafnodes spool) as well.
Follow-ups to this post don't need special attention since the 'Re: '
avoids the crash. Here's the complete message (as found in my spool, in
unmodified form)

warum kann ich z.b. xawtv nicht installieren ( als root )
und bekomme obige Meldung
