While trying to give myself a clue, it should be noted that I jumped
from .0.13.0 not .90

A little searching noticed that thread_read_color is not in prefs.c
anymore but maybe it can be specified with a gtk+ rc file?  (I can't
seem to find any documentation on Pan's use of gtk rc files)

Charles, any idea what part I'm missing here?
