Neither do I - works for me (TM). Why have you got a separate
libiconv.so?

$ locate libiconv.so
$ locate iconv.h
/usr/include/iconv.h
$ rpm -q --file /usr/include/iconv.h
glibc-devel-2.2.5-42
$

Also, some include file has redefined those function calls if you look
at the source, all yours have "lib" prepended to them. Maybe that's
something that the separate libiconv package does.
