It looks to me like you're asking for "Ignore Subthread".

This is currently possible with some manual editing of the scorefile:
1.  Create Score, check "References" (contains) and "Ignore"
2.  Edit the score in the scorefile:
    - Change "Score:" to "Score::"  (i.e. AND -> OR)
    - Uncomment the message-ID. (Remove % at beginning of line.)
3.  If the main thread is already watched, move the new score above
    the "watch" score, otherwise the latter will take precedence.
I hope I didn't forget anything.

Charles (Pan's maintainer) has expressed the intention of adding 
Watch/Ignore Subthread buttons.  I submitted a set of patches some 
days ago (see <http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108566> , 
2nd and 3rd patch), but they haven't been reviewed yet, so the 
official implementation may be rather different.  One will have to 
move the score manually if the main thread is watched.
