That is really odd, this is with a fresh .pan2?  If you run pan --debug
do you see anything more detailed?

If you look just below your list of subscribed groups you will see a
section labeled Other Groups.  Expand that and all the groups will be there

Unfortunately you cannot do this right now, the change to make this
possible is non-trivial so I think it was pushed to 1.1.  You can do a
get new headers in subscribed groups, but that is all at this time.
