Chris,

You can create a VM with a minimal Ubuntu install [1] and then install an X Window server with your choice of window manager for a minimal memory system [2].

I'm actually going through the process of re-building my VM right now, If you choose to follow this path let me know if you see any issues.

Since ~/paparazzi is a mount to the working directory from which I booted the VM, the clock skew issues might be a problem if I switch between the host and VM. Do I need to set up NTP on both, or is there a better way?
