"backref-alt" test fails on several systems:
   Ubuntu 14.04 (aarch64)
   Raspbian 9.6 (armv7l)
   Debian 8.11 (mips64)
   Debian 8.11 (i686)
(perhaps something to do with non-amd64 systems?)

"stack-overflow" test fails on:
   Ubuntu 14.04/aarch64
   AIX 7.2

"surrogate-pair" test fails on:
   AIX 7.2

Many other tests fail on MINGW (cross-compiled under cygwin),
probably not a show-stopper.

No GREP test failures on the following:
  Darwin 17.4.0 (x86_64)
  Debian unstable (sparc64)
  FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-p7 (amd64)
  Linux 3.10.0-693.11.6.el7.ppc64 (ppc64)
  Linux 3.10.0-693.11.6.el7.ppc64le (ppc64le)
  Oracle SunOS 5.11 (i86pc)
  Oracle SunOS 5.11 (sun4u)
  NetBSD 7.1 (amd64)
  OpenBSD 6.2 (amd64)

Although there are some (previously known) gnulib test failures on BSDs.
