Here's a few sites I found if anybody wants to start converting.
Does anybody out there host a website that would be willing to set up a
"funny oggs" page? It would be great to provide a link in the e-mail,
so people can hear more at their will.

http://www.thebards.net/mp3/ (I listened to "DO VIRGINS TASTE BETTER
MEDLEY"). Probably no viral songs here, but still worth sharing.
Pretty good for a band that supports sharing. Oh, I just stumbled upon
"DONALD WHERE'S YOUR TROUSERS? MEDLEY". I remember that from Dr Demento
a few years back, before I moved. This one is pretty silly, worth
sharing too. Located here:

This is well said and basically what I was thinking... Except I would
pass it on as if it were the original ;)
Instead of the response "Why didn't you send it in X format? It's more
popular," I would expect something more like "It didn't work, what was
it?" or "how do I open this?".
You can say "Do you have (program of choice)? That's what my computer
opened it in." Or you can provide a link at the bottom and say "I
just installed the program in that link and then it opened just fine..."

It would probably be more effective to find humorous comedy bits
online and e-mail them out to friends and family, after converting it

an ogg player to hear it.
Exactly. In fact SOM has been advocating this for a year now:
