Could the data included in the SWF file be MP3 data?
Or is the SWF file used to point the user to an MP3 file to play?

The show audio files they point to in their RSS feed -- http://feeds.thisamericanlife.org/talpodcast -- are MP3 files.

For example, the patent show URL is:

http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/podcast.thisamericanlife.org/podcast/441.mp3

Also, the text they use in that feed says (in part) "In mp3 and updated Mondays.".
