Thanks for your reaction, after my post I read the readme.developer (but i'm not) and find out that I need newer versions of programms.
I installed Sarge, but had no time to try to install PSPP again. My suggestion till sofar: rename README.developer to README.CVSadd list of dependent programs including version to INSTALL (and README.developer/CVS).
