Can you run other X programs from this terminal prompt? If not,
then that is likely a generic problem not related to PSPP.
Did you give the -X option to ssh? This may make a difference.

If you installed from a Debian package, then this should ensure
that all the dependencies are already installed and available.

I don't think that you are going to be able to get the PSPP GUI
working on Linux without X.
