    The type of this variable is inconsistent with
    apple_gfx_host_address_for_gpa_range() returns uintptr_t.

    Perhaps it may be better to make apple_gfx_host_address_for_gpa_range()
    return void *. That function can use uint8_t * internally for pointer
    computation.

I think that technically violates C's strict aliasing rules, although char* should be safe.

I was curious about this so searched the Web to find this:
https://en.cppreference.com/w/c/language/object
> Given an object with effective type T1, using an lvalue expression
> (typically, dereferencing a pointer) of a different type T2 is

We are not dereferencing it so the strict aliasing rule will not apply. char* should be fine of course.

    They are more convenient as they don't need pointer casting
    and can use "NULL", which is less cryptic than "0".

We'll have to cast the return value at the other call site, but that's ok; we'll always end up with a cast *somewhere* due to the way the Mach VM APIs work. (Their arguments aren't pointers because they can operate on the address space of any process, not just the current one.)

Right, but we can still save some casts by using pointers as the Mach API is an exception and the other involved functions (apple_gfx_mmio_map_surface_memory() and memory_region_get_ram_ptr()) returns pointers.

    I prefer:

    if (!region) {
          ...
          return false;
    }

    return true;

    You can save typing "else" and add more error conditions in the future.
