The z80 was also used in the more modern TI-83 Plus programmable calculator [1], for instance (chosen for school use in Baden- Württemberg in the early 2000s). There was an assembler toolchain integrated with Zilog Studio on Windows iirc. Apparently there's also an open source C compiler toolchain at [2] for these and other targets.
