This seems to be a mistake on my part, some rebase leftover, the initialization 
already happened before.

Will remove/fix, thanks for the catch!

I am puzzled as well to see this.

I tried removing the qemu_notify_event() call, and it does not seem to break 
anything for me,
but I'd keep it unchanged for now, maybe it was added for some reason?
