The proposed patch breaks patches in .gz or .bz2 format, so I'm sorry I can't
apply it.
It's most likely not related to the Index line. The problem seems to be a
partial read from a pipe. I cannot reproduce, and I don't think we should
read all files to their end. This should be stripped-down test cases for
tracking down the culprit (run using different shells, and over nfs as wekk
as locally):
cat file | awk '{exit}'
cat file | true
Which versions of bash, cat, and the kernel were used?
