There are a lot of questions to be answered and I will address them all below. Thanks for the continued support.
- Niku: Did you try `w3m http://www.google.com', and did you find images on that page?
- Andy: Trying w3m http://www.google.com does not show images. It opens the page in the terminal and I can navigate using the text browser just fine.
- Niku: I am assuming that you gave yourself execute permissions to the w3mimgdisplay file. At any rate, please tell the output of `ls -l /path/to/w3mimgdisplay'.
- Andy: ls -l for /opt/local/libex/w3m gives the below output. Sorry but it has been a long while since I have had to change permissions on things so I've conveniently forgotten how to do it.
- drwxr-xr-x 9 root admin 306 Jul 13 05:34 cgi-bin
- -rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 9440 Jul 13 05:34 inflate
- -rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 13944 Jul 13 05:34 w3mimgdisplay
- -rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 1390 Jul 13 05:34 xface2xpm
- Niku: ...any one of three libraries is required for rendering images
- Andy: I have installed:
- imlib 1.9.15
- imlib2 1.4.5
- gdk-pixbuf 0.22.0
- gdk-pixbuf2 2.28.2
- gtk2 2.24.19
- I tried to install libungif 4.1.4 but MacPorts states that it has been superseded by giflib. I installed giflib 4.2.1.
- I even reinstalled w3m with imlib2 support and it opened images in feh. Uninstalling and reinstalling w3m with gtk2 support and it again opened images in feh.
- Niku: ...how you are opening the image using ImageMagick via the command `w3mimgdisplay'?
- Andy: I am not opening images with the w3mimgdisplay command rather the w3m -o 'ext_image_viewer=off' /path/to/image.jpg command which you stated that w3m would try and open an image using w3mimgdisplay.
- Joshua: In an ImageMagick window? Are you sure?
- Andy: I'm not so sure anymore since after installing feh, images always open in it. I tried uninstalling feh to reproduce the ImageMagick issue but it doesn't open an image at all anymore. Reinstalling feh opens the images in X11 again.
I should state that while viewing images in the terminal would be super awesome, feh is lightweight enough to blast through the series of images I have in order to view them in X11. It's orders of magnitude faster than the Finder on my Mac and that's what I was hoping for.
