Follow-up Comment #1:
preserve_atime doesn't anyway do a lot of the things you'd think it could do,
it just avoids comparing atime and I guess the code would fail if the variable
would be set to true.
I don't think that a handling of atime will come any time soon, but feel free
to re-create an issue at https://github.com/rdiff-backup/rdiff-backup/issues
if you have a use case and it's important to you.
