John Huggins <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: VMELinux Project
System name: vmelinux
This package does NOT want to apply for inclusion in the GNU project
The VMELinux Project provides the linux kernel with a driver interface to a PCI
device which provides access to the VMEbus. The device is the Tundra Universe
II PCI/VME bridge. The popularity of the Universe device has meant its design
into many brands of VMEbus processor computers. Long the realm of proprietary
operating systems, the VMEbus frequently does not require the advanced features
of software like PSOS, Qnx, Lynx and others. Linux is a reliable alternative
for many VMEbus tasks and this project exists to provide a simple way to
connect Linux to the majority of VME processors available today.
The VMELinux Project includes the Linux loadable module driver for the Universe
II device otherwise known as ca91c042. In addition, various utilities are
available to gain access to the VMEbus from a shell prompt. Example code is
available for writing applications that communicate with the driver via the
device driver files.
The project currently exists and you can see it at http://www.vmelinux.org/
