Well, I saw the message that the FAQ item is obsolete.
The problem is that the FAQ gived me no clue that CVS mail notifications can be
obtained by asking here. I had to ask a friend (Karl Berry) and he told me
about the possibility.
Perhaps the FAQ should mention this.

Done, and that FAQ item is out of date, which is stated by the notice at the
top of it:
Please Note: this document is out-of-date, and is here only for posterity. We
do not allow projects' `CVSROOT/' directories to be modified any longer. We
hope to be providing a web front-end for you to manage some of the files in
your projects' `CVSROOT/' some time in the future.
