Eu li atentamente o texto e entendi o seguinte:

1 - O formato de plataforma aberta de mensagens postadas vai deixar de existir;

2 - O grupo continuará existindo, porém mediante trocas de mensagens
eletrônicas entre os membros e não mais com mensagens legíveis para
todos na Internet;

3 - Todas as mensagens já postadas nos grupos (atualmente legíveis por
qualquer pessoa na Internet) serão deletadas;

4 - Quem desejar manter as mensagens já postadas, deverá produzir uma
cópia de segurança até o dia 14 de dezembro de 2019.

Segundo entendo, salvo engano, o grande atrativo de uma lista de
discussão online é justamente a característica de se poder acessar as
mensagens postadas a qualquer momento no tempo. E, segundo entendo,
salvo engano, é justamente essa característica que deixará de existir,
ou seja, as mensagens se tornarão privadas e somente entre os membros
aprovados do grupo. Entendo que a finalidade tradicional e consagrada
de uma lista de discussão online na Internet deixa de existir. Por
esse motivo, salvo engano, é que a migração ainda é necessária.

O portal de listas do projeto GNU <https://lists.gnu.org/>, em meu
entender, é o mais apropriado e adequado, pois é específico para
abrigar listas de discussão.

Além disso, o projeto GNU, inicialmente, não tem uma orientação
comercial, quer dizer, não tem uma finalidade lucrativa, como ocorre
com o portal Yahoo. Por conta da finalidade lucrativa, é que essa
situação está ocorrendo. Os gestores do Yahoo decidiram mudar o
formato dos grupos em detrimento do riquíssimo conteúdo lá postado.
Com o projeto GNU isso certamente não aconteceria, até mesmo porque
eles tem uma política rígida de não editar os arquivos da web (veja-se
a política de privacidade completa em
<https://www.fsf.org/about/free-software-foundation-privacy-policy>).
