tried running the same command under gdb and this is what was returned:

(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/sbin/sks pbuild -cache 20 -ptree_cache 70

Fatal error: exception Bdb.DBError("Cannot open DURABLE and NOT DURABLE handles 
in the same file")

Program exited with code 02.
