    Thanks for the suggestions.  Assuming signing worked on this message, turning on PGP/MIME seems to have resolved the issue.

Looks like you're composing in HTML and inline signing. This is known to have
very little chance of success.

You may wish to either compose everything in plain text if you are going to sign
inline

Switch to using PGP/MIME which has a better chance of success with HTML content
