Definitely a concern, but Pubsubhubbub works based on a similar scheme, 
and I think part of the plan was to distribute *ALL* content over PSHB 
(video, photos, etc.)... Apparently there is an extension pending to the 
PSHB spec to server arbitrary content instead of just Atom feeds.

I think it works well in the sense that every time I post a video my 
hosting node won't have to serve it out to a bunch of other servers all 
at once (some of the intended recipients might never even watch it..), 
so content is only served on an on-demand basis. So I think this scheme 
might result it more return hits, but less spiking in network traffic 
every time something needs to be shared.
