*** That was officially announced on October 18th, then reconfirmed
yesterday. But I thought rms had sorted things out with Matt and Rob,
and that everything was clear. Given it was not, I backed off.

As I said on IRC:

18:25 <@ mattl> hellekin: what do you mean 'backed off'?
18:30 < hellekin> I mean I leave it to you, it's not myproject, and
never was my intention to take it over
18:40 <@ mattl> thank you
20:00 < hellekin> actually, mattl, I thought that GNU Social was
abandoned, because there was no activity in the list or in the repository.
20:02 < hellekin> When I first approached rms and he mentioned GNU
Social, I said it would certainly be one of the projects to jump onboard
of our larger initiative to facilitate coordination between different
projects
20:02 < hellekin> over the last few years, I met a lot of developers
from different projects, and many tend to ignore other similar projects,
which prevents synergies from happening.
20:03 < hellekin> it's because we're all limited in our perception and
our time. But I think that situation can improve, and that's the aim of
my initiative.
20:04 < hellekin> at first, rms didn't want to hear about a
non-software project in the GNU project, but with time and discussion he
came to realize that it's a possible way to bring more developers to the
GNU project in a field that is critical for people's freedom
20:05 < hellekin> and for me, wearing a GNU hat is a way to guarantee
developers that their code will sustain the objective of freedom
20:06 < hellekin> I'm sad that we started on a bad foot, but I hope
you understand that my objective is for the greater good, and not a
competition, and even less a takeover
20:09 <@ mattl> i think rms needs to figure out what he does now
20:12 < hellekin> I sent a message to the list regarding GNU network,
that robmyers mentioned earlier, and that I wasn't aware of. But it
didn't reach the list yet.
20:14 < hellekin> Earlier this morning I sent rms an email telling him
I'm opposing taking over the name and that we should find another
solution. Maybe nurturing GNU network is a solution.
20:24 <@ mattl> sounds good.
