If you really need this, you can use something like this in your .xinit:
exec screen -S stumpwm -L -D -m your/path/to/stumpwm
You can then use screen to kill stumpwm and start something else. This
kind of low-tech, so if you got some time to spare, you might add
exec-support to stumpwm, as Shawn pointed out.
