There's not supposed to be an *inferior-lisp* buffer when you use
slime-connect, because you're connecting to an external lisp image
rather than running one under emacs. There should however be a
*slime-repl sbcl* (or equivalent for your lisp implementation): is
there?
If not, are there any other *slime... buffers, or is there anything
interesting in *Messages* ? Does M-x slime-connections list anything?
