To the collectively evolving,

The Swarm team at the Santa Fe Institute is pleased to announce that
Swarm 1.3.1 is ready. Swarm 1.3.1 is intended to be a stable reference.

Significant new features in the release include:

o A Swarm CD-ROM, formatted for use with Unix and Windows. Under
Windows 95/NT, the GNU C compiler can be run directly off the CD,
as can Emacs, the Bash shell, and Swarm demos. In addition, the
Swarm CD-ROM includes Win32 executables all the necessary tools to
build Swarm documentation from the Swarm source code and Swarmdocs
SGML text (e.g. jade, TeX, netpbm, GhostScript, etc). The Swarm
CD-ROM also includes binary installer packages for Debian 2.0,
Redhat 5.1, and Solaris 2.5.1, archives of Swarm source code and
underlying tools and libraries, as well as complete HTML
documentation. About 550 megabytes of goodies.

We'll snail-mail you one for $20 US, or pick one up at SFI for $10 US.

o A simple animated schedule browser. The Mousetrap demonstration
application includes code to exercise this widget.

o Much more complete and robust widget snapshot features
    - Support for window managers using multiple virtual displays
    - Support > 8 bit-depth screen snapshots

o EZBins are more colorful customizable.
    Thanks to Sven Thommesen!

o New functions initSwarmApp and initSwarmAppArguments. These
initialization functions allow a bug report address and
application version number to be included in the standard help text.

o Support for char, short, unsigned short, long, and unsigned long
types in Message and Variable probes.

o More complete bookkeeping and descriptive statistics for Zone.

  o Various autoconfiguration improvements:
    - Support for EGCS 1.1
    - New flag to configure, --with-xpmdir, for specifying use of a Xpm
installation outside of the usual X11 tree.
    - Improved detection of link options for recording shared-library
      paths in a Swarm application.

..and of course a pile of bug fixes.
