CALL FOR ECOLOGICAL MODELS

The Chemical Manufacturer's Association (CMA) has funded a project to
evaluate ways to improve application of effects-based models in ecological
risk assessment. The current practice of ecological risk assessment
typically relies on exposure modeling and simple effects-extrapolation
models for individual organisms. Further development of population,
community, and ecosystem-level models is needed to increase the value of
ecological risk assessments for environmental management. The objectives of
the CMA project are to:

* Conduct a critical evaluation of extrapola-tion models, population
models, and eco-system models that are potentially useful for chemical risk
assessment
* Rank the various candidate models based on evaluation criteria such
as scientific sup-port, regulatory acceptance, state of devel-opment, and
ability to predict relevant assessment endpoints
* Select the best models and evaluate the feasibility of "validating"
selected models using case study data.

Developers and users of ecological-effects models should send their
suggestions for useful ecological models (excluding models focused on
chemical exposure and fate only) to Dr. Robert Pastorok, Exponent, 15375 SE
30th Place, Suite 250, Bellevue, WA 98007 or via e-mail to
address@hidden Exponent has teamed with Applied Biomathematics,
Steven Bartell, Ph.D. (Cadmus Group), and S.E. Jørgensen, Ph.D. (Royal
Danish School of Pharmacy) for CMA's project.

If you respond to this request please organize information on your suggested
models as follows:
