General Description:
Undertake research programming assignments under the supervision of 
researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's 
Center for Computational Epidemiology.  Design and implement 
computational models (agent-based and other) of the transmission of 
infectious disease (including smallpox, measles, dengue fever, and 
HIV/AIDS).  Programming to be done in Java and C++.  The incumbent 
will be the initial hire of a new academic center, and will be 
instrumental in the establishment of computational (hardware and 
software) capabilities. Strong leadership abilities will be necessary 
in order to contribute to this process.  As the center expands, the 
incumbent will have the opportunity to supervise subsequent hires 
(programmers).
 
Qualifications:
Substantial (3+ years) experience in Java programming required. 
Experience in other programming languages (such as C/C++) strongly 
preferred. Advanced degree in computer science or 
related field strongly preferred.  Experience with simulation and 
modeling strongly preferred.  Experience with agent-based programming 
and agent-based programming environments (ASCAPE, REPAST, SWARM) 
preferred. Experience with genetic algorithms a plus.  Interest in 
public health, and epidemiology essential.
  
Salary commensurate with experience.
