Conference Preliminary Announcement

AGENT 2007: Complex Interaction and Social Emergence

Date: November 15-17, 2007
Location: Campus of Northwestern University, Norris Center,
Evanston, Illinois, USA
Co-Hosts: Argonne National Laboratory and Northwestern University

Conference Web Site: www.agent2007.anl.gov

Agent modeling has transformed scientific methodologies across a number
of disciplines. One of the strengths of agent simulation, for example,
is its ability to represent fine-grained and dynamic interactions among
diverse types of actors. These rich interactions are a frequent source
of emergent complexities including group norms, societal institutions
and social transformations. Thus, such interactions have significant
theoretical potential as well as strong implications for computational
techniques and various kinds of applications. Agent 2007 encourages
researchers to explore and report on their modeling of complex
interactions, and the diverse forms of emergence that arise therefrom.

The conference will consist of three tracks each lasting one day:

Methods, Toolkits & Techniques: Michael North (address@hidden)
Computational Social Theory: David Sallach (address@hidden)
Social Simulation Applications: Charles Macal (address@hidden)

Important Dates:

        August 1 Abstract Submission Deadline
        August 21 Notification of Acceptance
        October 1 Camera-Ready Paper Deadline

If you are interested in presenting a paper, please submit an abstract
of at least 500 words to agent address@hidden If your extended abstract
is accepted, you will be asked to submit a paper of 2,500 to 3,500 words
in final form. See the conference web site for paper format guidelines
and other conference-related information. Papers that are submitted by
the camera-ready paper deadline (October 1, 2007) will be published in
the Agent 2007 Proceedings, which will be available on CD at this year's
conference.

The conference will be preceded by Repast and NetLogo workshops at the
same location.

        Repast Modeling Workshop, November 12-14
Presented by Argonne's Decision & Information Sciences
Division

        NetLogo Modeling Workshop, November 12-14
Presented by Northwestern University's Center for
Connected Learning and Computer-Based Modeling

Registration is required for both the conference and the workshops.
Registration fees will be posted on the conference web site. Attendance
at the training courses is limited.

Hotel information and directions will be posted on the conference web
site.
