        Dear Tarek,

        both proposals sound very interesting.

I suggest that you send to the list two separated short abstracts (a little bit more descriptive than below) and we will include them in the review process.

        See you soon, Pietro

        Hi.
We have a couple of projects that we would still like to submit abstracts to for Swarmfest this year.

The first involves a graduate thesis on UAV swarm: a detailed study, an involved simulation tool, including multiple layers FROM RF COMM to an optical layer. Finally and based on swarm concepts, we suggest a new approach to UAV design and build (different species, etc...). We would also demonstrate the new simulation tool and make it available for all participants.

The second abstract involves a swarm of ROBOSAPIEN bipedal robot to fight fires. This project involves 25 students doing design and implementation of a bipedal robotic swarm to fight fires. Subsystems include SONAR, CAMERA, Optical Navigation, B/T communications, and Integration design. Should this abstract also be accepted, we would like to actually bring the robots with us. The project is very involved and sheds much light into the actual implementation of a swarm and how much work is involved in it. It also discusses some aspects of the trade-off between AI and swarm and what decision had to be made for this particular application. We also discuss how such a micro-model can be generalized to more advanced applications.

Please let me know if these two concepts are acceptable. I apologize for the delay in sending in the abstracts, but I still think that they would both be a very nice fit for your conference and would hope that you would let us submit them late.

        Take care.
        Tarek.
