Thanks for this bugreport. The dpkg output is a bit tricky to parse. I'll see

Summary: progress bar for debian packages
Original Submission: It could be implemented at least a progress bar based on
total required to be installed/installation done (something like downloading
bars but without estimated time) when use synaptic without terminal output
option activated and at last if all goes fine a message windows like this: this
packages installed successful with an expandible list of installed removed
packages. If it will be possible to patch dpkg to support a sort of rpm -h
functionality we could had also progrss bar into single packages installation.
