It looks like there is something wrong with savannah. I tried to
upload the source package a couple of times and it just didn't work. I
put the version online at:
http://people.debian.org/~mvo/synaptic/synaptic_0.53.4.tar.gz

and hope that savannah will work again in a couple of days.
