Hello,

After the switch of lilypond to texi2html, and after John Mandereau
proposed a reimplementation of makeinfo in C++/scheme, and given that
texi2html seems to already have a design enabling the separation of
texinfo parsing and output generation, Karl Berry (the texinfo
maintainer) proposed to replace makeinfo by texi2html, if
 * info, plaintext, xml and docbook backends are added to texi2html
 * a perl gettext equivalent is used
and John agreed.

If things go smoothly, this means that texi2html (which may be renamed
then) could become a GNU project. This would be possible only if people
who contributed should transfer their copyright to the FSF, or the
corresponding code is rewritten.

The following people are ok to transfer their copyright or have already
done it:
Lionel Cons
Karl Berry
Patrice Dumas

The following people hold part of the copyright (unless I am wrong,
Derek agreed in the past to transfer his copyright to the FSF):
Derek Price
Olaf Bachmann
Adrian Aichner
Karl Heinz Marbaise

These people did some work on texi2html but it is not sure that there is
still some of their code in texi2html today, since large parts were
rewritten:
Eric Sunshine
Peter Moulder
Eric Marsden
Ville Skytta
Richard Y. Kim

If you are in this list and you can say now if you agree to transfer
your copyright or refuse to transfer your copyright to the FSF, and if
you refuse please tell what part of the code is yours. If you are not on
this list but you are a texi2html author, please say so too. I will hunt
down people who didn't respond after some time.

There is no hurry since the 1rst point may be insurmountable (though I
don't think so!).
