The problem is the first character on the first line of the file:
character: (325983, #o1174537, #x4f95f, U+FEFF)
charset: mule-unicode-e000-ffff
(Unicode characters of the range U+E000..U+FFFF.)
code point: #x72 #x5F
syntax: w which means: word
buffer code: #x9C #xF3 #xF2 #xDF
file code: #xEF #xBB #xBF (encoded by coding system mule-utf-8-unix)
display: by this font (glyph code)
-xos4-Terminus-Bold-R-Normal--20-200-72-72-C-100-ISO10646-1 (#xFEFF)
This looks like a BOM, perhaps your editor is adding it automatically.
msgfmt doesn't like this as it can't parse the file -- it expects
certain characters at the beginning of the lines. I fixed it.
