I am pleased to announce the first release of GNUnited Nations (or
simply GNUN), a build system for www.gnu.org translations.

The task of GNUN is to `gettextize' the English HTML articles,
converting them into PO templates (.pot). Translations are maintained
in PO format (.po), similar to translations of programs or manuals.
That way, any changes to the original articles are merged, and the
.html translations are refreshed. It is easy to check which
translations of a particular language are outdated.

GNUN has been under extensive testing for more than a year, and is the
official way to maintain gnu.org translations since June. For the
time being the package is strictly tied to the GNU Project's website
layout and structure, so it does not work for other sites.

GNUnited Nations is available under the terms of the GNU General
Public License, version 3 or later. The manual is licensed under the
GNU Free Documentation License, version 1.3 or later.

The homepage is http://gnu.org/software/gnun/.

Subsequent releases will be announced at the
<address@hidden> mailing list, at least until GNUN becomes
more interesting to the general public. You can use Mailman's
"topics" feature and subscribe to the "gnun" topic, in case you want
to track only GNUN releases.

GNU Webmasters and GNU Web translators are not required to install the
gnun package to do their work, as translations are rebuilt
automatically for the "www" Savannah project by a cronjob.

Here are the compressed sources:
  ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnun/gnun-0.1.tar.gz (284KB)

Here are the GPG detached signatures[*]:
  ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnun/gnun-0.1.tar.gz.sig

Here are the MD5 and SHA1 checksums:

33c9cf0a318f949f5a4723a6c6f1919b gnun-0.1.tar.gz
39174bf4a99529b913ae060fa85b79e9a668fd1c gnun-0.1.tar.gz

[*] You can use either of the above signature files to verify that
the corresponding file (without the .sig suffix) is intact. First,
be sure to download both the .sig file and the corresponding tarball.
Then, run a command like this:

  gpg --verify gnun-0.1.tar.gz.sig

If that command fails because you don't have the required public key,
then run this command to import it:

  gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv-keys A49EF0C0

and rerun the `gpg --verify' command.

This release was bootstrapped with the following tools:
  Autoconf 2.63
  Automake 1.10.2
