Hi Peter,

This idea has been floating around (at least in my mind ;-) ) for a long time, 
and we even tried to make this work for the 'Fade' thing, a 
dedicated 'ViewPort' where only the Fade In/Out is shown, with some dedicated 
controls in the ViewPort.

Qt offers the possability to embed QWidget's on the Canvas (QGraphicsView) 
which might be a good idea as well.
The idea is that if it can be integrated into the view itself, it should be 
done, to not distract from the workflow (a modal dialog for example redirects 
the workflow to another window)

If other people have opinions about your idea, I welcome them of course :D

Just keep in mind that the core logic should be that, and that a single track 
editor should be just another way of displaying the data (waveform, tracks, 
plugins etc)
