I don't see a problem with it, myself.  Anyone who cares to build from
CVS should not have a problem using the latest tools -- historically,
that has often been a requirement.

As you know, my preference is not require every contributor to have the
exact right autotools, but instead to check in sufficient files to CVS
that people can just cvs checkout, configure, and make.  That has its
own pluses and minuses, of course.

It's your choice, naturally ...
