I think that the project is not that big. When you break it to pieces you also probably notice that the new individual parts are too small. I never felt we have so many files that this might become a burden.
Size is not the main issue. Do you create separate C files only because they become too long ? Anyway, I am not fully convinced myself, but there are advantages to separate files. For one, it is more readable.
