Hello, fellow translators!

This year was very active: though a few old teams were essentially
dormant, most of the rest worked as hard as in 2012, and there are
two new teams. The average number of translations per English page in
the `important' directories has never been so high (7.42).

On the other hand, the quantity of outdated PO files increased
by the end of this year.

    General Statistics

The table below shows the number and size of newly translated articles
(as of 2013-12-31), and the translations that were converted to the PO
format. Only the translations from the `important' directories are
taken into account, and errors are likely.

* The Arabic, Malayalam, Swedish translations were submitted without
establishing a new team and installed by web-translators.

@ All HTML-only translations in the `important' directories are
counted, not only the translations of the displayed teams.

(For the reference: in 2013, 15 new pages were added amounting
 to 122Ki.)

As you can see, three teams (the German, the Croatian,
and the Japanese one) completed converting their translations
to the PO format. The Spanish team also converted most of their
HTML-only translations.

    Orphaned Teams

The Greek, the Korean and the Brazilian Portuguese teams became orphan
(their leaders didn't reply to emails). The Norwegian teams were
inactive for many years and were just formally declared orphan this
year.

    New and Reformed Teams

First, there are two new co-leaders: Thérèse Godefroy (the French
team) and Karl Lam (Chinese, responsible for the "Traditional"
translations).

Two new teams were established: the Croatian and the Ukrainian one;
both of them have done more work on the respective translations this
year than it had been done for all years before them.

The priority language teams that were missing in 2012 are still
to be established; the good thing is that we've got our first Hindi
translation (the SRT file for the Happy Birthday to GNU video).

There was an impressive number of attempts to create new teams for
very different languages: Arabic (many times, overlapping), Indonesian
(twice), Malayalam (twice), Slovak (twice), Bengali, Quenya, Danish,
Vietnamese, Sindarin, Swedish, Hindi, Latin, Brazilian Portuguese and
European Portuguese, Klingon, Armenian, Hausa.

Changes in the Page Regeneration System

The most notable progress in our infrastructure was setting up
a Pootle instance at chapters.gnu.org; the same server was used
to provide a simple means to preview GNUNified translations [0].

The development of GNUN itself was not that great; single release was
prepared, mostly cleanups, portability improvements and fixing various
bugs.

New "optional" templates were added, software/recent-releases-include
and server/home-pkgblurbs; the latter made the homepage even more
moving target than it was before.

Happy GNU year, and thanks a lot for your contributions!

(I see nothing secret in this message, so if you think it may be
interesting to people who are not subscribed to the list, please
feel free to forward it).

If you'd like to try it, note that (a) the certificate of that
web site is self-signed and for a different identity, so you'll
probably need to add an exception, and (b) it only works when
you login as a registered user.
