I've attached an old-style set of xpms that is more or less Hastings, along with a screenshot.  Not as fancy as I'd like but I can't seem to find a really good quality image of hastings to make them from, and I lost the files I had years ago.  But this set is reminiscent of chess publishing in the 1920s.

This works with xboard presumably up to 4.4.  I could not get 4.6 or above to compile on my system.  I have not tried 4.5.  I think 4.6.2 was the last version to support custom pixmaps, but I could be wrong.  I have not followed xboard development for years.
