[XMakemol-discuss] configure stuck looking for X toolkit

I'm trying to compile xmakemol under Redhat Enterprise
Linux 5 on an x86_64 machine and getting stuck in
configure:

configure: error: The X toolkit library '-lXt' could not be found.
               
Please use the configure iptions '--x-includes=DIR'
               
and '--x-libraries=DIR' to specify the X location.
               
See the 'config.log' file for further diagnostics.

lesstif is not installed and won't install because XFree86 will
not install because it conflicts with mesa-libGL. I tried

configure --with-mesa

but it doesn't help.

I've been unable to figure out how/if things translate between
older RedHat linux and Enterprise.

I hope someone can help.
