Follow-up Comment #1, bug #66359 (group make):
https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/Makefile-Names.html
documents which names are looked for by default. Makefile.mak isn’t one of
them. That suggests that the content is unlikely to have been created for use
with Gnu Make, so I wish you good luck.
