Small fixes, and a big change!

Hello,

   I have pushed two branches into the repository: dm-v1.1.5 and dm-v1.2.0.  
The first fixes a few problems I've found in the
current release, and the second gets rid of all C code and makes the project 
100% Guile.  I'd be grateful if someone could
review and commit the changes to the mainline.

   It is up to you what you do with the version numbers as mine are just 
suggestions, but the latter change is sufficiently
significant that I think it is worth its own version bump.
