Hello list,
after quite a long period of time (almost two years), sporadic
"investigations" on the rare documentation from Microsoft and a very lot
try and error we (Raimi and me) could have verified the named pipe
interface of Serveez under Windows (NT4.0/2000/XP) to be working. This was
one of the long term items on my personal TODO list. Raimi tested it on a
Windows NT and XP. I myself tested it on a Windows 2000. For I had more of
these installations I could also verify that these named pipes are shared
across the Windows network. That means you can setup Serveez to connect
named pipes on remote Windows computers without having the TCP right on
hand.
With this item done I would like to state that the Serveez core library
covers most IPv4 issues. With the extension of named pipes (which is a
network issue under Windows, too). If you yet think of missing features
the library should implement please tell me.
Otherwise I would like to call the Serveez core library a platform
independent networking C/C++ API for IPv4. I wonder if the implementation
could compete with the SDL package (which is just now the only comparable
package I know). Do you know others ?
Most servers which come with the Serveez package are in a more or less
untested state. We definitly know about the aWCS server to be working
(does its work for several months now on www.texture.net). If you know
about good or bad news, please let me know.
Cheers,
