Personally, I like the shared folder structure too.  Packaging shouldn't
be an issue either way as long as the Makefiles install everything in
the right place.

By the way, just so I get numbering conventions correct.  Are we doing
the following?

freeipmi-0-1-0-alpha6.qa0
freeipmi-0-1-0-alpha6.qa1
...
freeipmi-0-1-0-beta0
freeipmi-0-1-0-beta1
...
freeipmi-0-1-0
