One extra thing I just thought of.  The data that Dell typically pulls
asset-tag, board-revision, etc. is actually stored in the same place as
the FRU.  Did you guys check the FRU via ipmi-fru?  Perhaps with
ipmi-fru -vv?  Is it possible the slot data is hidden in there
somewhere?
