I don't know if this is a valid assumption.  My general tips and tricks

(I now see that the link in part 3 is broken, and I should find a new
page that describes newer modern Linux systems)

Perhaps you did not enable SOL for the user you logged in with?

Did you ensure that this Linux agetty is running and redirecting out of
the appropriate ttySX?
